Week 9: New York Jets 26, New Orleans Saints 20- Post Game Thoughts

This may not have been the sexiest win for the Jets, but it is their most impressive one in quite some time as they downed the NFC South powerhouse Saints in the Meadowlands on Sunday.  Rex Ryan just doesn’t lose to his brother Rob (the Saints defensive coordinator).  While the New York offense was nothing overly spectacular in this game, their defense was the talk of the town as they held Drew Brees down on a comeback drive attempt late in the fourth quarter.  They were also able to intercept him twice while holding the Saints to just 41 yards on the ground.  Also, New Orleans was only 3/11 on third down and 1/3 on fourth down, so this Jets’ defense was getting off the field when they needed to in this contest.  It was good to see Chris Ivory run like an unchained animal against his former team as he scampered for 139 yards and a touchdown in this one.  So, now the Saints are 6-2 with both of their losses coming on the road to AFC East foes, so these two blemishes shouldn’t kill them.  They really need to look ahead to their game with the Cowboys at home next week where their secondary will be tested unlike it was in this game.  The Jets get to sit at home and watch the action next week as they prepare to take on the Bills for the second time this season.  With losses by San Diego and Baltimore on Sunday, the Jets playoff chances have increased.  However, they will need to shake this rut of following a great game with a stinker if they want to push for a wild card spot.  An 8-8 record will not be good enough to sneak Gang Green into the playoffs, just saying.
